PPC – Copolymer

Impact copolymer , a material resistant to the impact, is used in cold water lines and injection molding. It is one of the polypropylene types and is not resistant to the heat. It is one of the 3 polypropylene raw materials that are used in daily life.

Impact Copolymer Properties

  • The raw material of the impact copolymer is the Polypropylene with a maximum ratio of 3%.
  • It is not resistant to heat.
  • It is used for the production of plastic pipes used in cold water lines.
  • Polypropylene is produced in 3 different ways. The type that is most widely used in the market is the impact copolymer.
  • There are 2 kinds of monomer in it. Its molecular structure is as follows: AAA-BBB-AAA-BBB.
  • It plays an important role in increasing resistance to impacts at low temperatures.
  • It is among the polymers that are classified according to the chain structure.

While homopolymer is the polymer consisting of identical monomer units, the copolymer is the polymer made by reaction of two different or more monomers. Impact copolymer is the type that contains the long segments of different homopolymers. It is also known as cPP.

Impact copolymer cannot resist to the heat for a long time. Hence, it is suitable for the production of plastic pipes used in cold water.

Polyethylenes, which are the most used plastics, are plastic synthetic polymers, which are not available in nature and are formed by human intervention and have a very common usage area. It is colorless in structure and can be colored with coloring additives. It is a light material, highly resistant to the impact. Hene, it is used in the production of the pipes since it can be used in many different areas.
