SAN – Styrene Acrylonitrile

SAN (Styrene Acrylonitrile) and Properties

Styrene acrylonitrile typically contains 20 to 30% acrylonitrile and it is used in general polystyrene applications requiring moderate high temperature resistance and additional chemical resistance. Since it is highly transparent, it is widely used.

The chemical resistance of styrene acrylonitrile is high and the surface hardness is important. The highly transparent Styrene Acrylonitrile provides a nice brightness. While styrene acrylonitrile is not suitable to be used in outdoor areas, it has colored models. There are also UV resistant models.

Styrene acrylonitrile, a hard, transparent and rigid plastic, has a strong chemical resistance. The advantages that styrene acrylonitrile provides increase thanks to its acrylonitrile content. Since it is highly resistant to stretch, it can be used in many areas.

With a high heat resistance, styrene acrylonitrile is used in general purpose polystyrene applications since it is easy to handle and it provides mechanical properties. It also provides a great advantage since it can be used in food industry and it can contact the human body. Therefore, it is possible to use this material in personal and protective items. Since it is transparent, it is easily used in medical products and optical device lenses.
